High performance computing of explicit schemes for electrofusion jointing process based on message-passing paradigm

The research focused on heterogeneous cluster workstations comprising of a number of CPUs in single and shared architecture platform. The problem statements under consideration involved one dimensional parabolic equations. The thermal process of electrofusion jointing was also discussed. Numerical schemes of explicit type such as AGE, Brian, and Charlies Methods were employed. The parallelization of these methods were based on the domain decomposition technique. Some parallel performance measurement for these methods were also addressed. Temperature profile of the one dimensional radial model of the electrofusion process were also given

Parallel Processing Models For Image Processing Problems

This report is the compilation of our research work under IRPA Vot no. 72179. The work consists of four main problems of study. First, we look at the stochastic task scheduling problem using the reconfigurable mesh network as the computing platform. Through our model called the Dynamic Simulator on Reconfigurable Mesh (DSRM) which maps a randomly generated number of tasks onto the processors at discrete time, some reasonably good load balancing results were obtained. The second problem is the application of the first model in the edge detection problem using the Laplacian convolution method on the same parallel computing network. In the third problem, we extend the scope to include a strategy for the single-row routing of pins and vias in VLSI design, using our model called the Enhanced Simulated annealing for Single-row Routing (ESSR). This model is the parallel implementation of the simulated annealing method, and it generates optimum solutions to the problem. The fourth problem is the extension of the single-row routing problem, where a model has been developed to transform a complete graph into its single-row representation. This last problem has some significant contributions in applications such as scheduling and channel assignment problem in cellular telephone systems

Multi input intervention model for evaluating the impact of the asian crisis and terrorist attacks on tourist arrivals

The objective of this research is to study the impact of the Asian financial crisis and terrorist attacks Bali on the number of tourist arrivals by using a multi input intervention model. The focus is on the development of a model that could be used to explain the magnitude and periodic impacts of the Asian financial crisis since July 1997 and terrorist attacks referring to the Bali bombings on October 12th 2002 and October 1st 2005, respectively. Monthly data comprising the number of tourist arrivals in Indonesia via Soekarno-Hatta airport are used as the data for this case study. The results show that the Asian financial crisis and Bali bombings yield negative impacts on the number of tourist arrivals to Indonesia via Soekarno-Hatta airport. Generally, the Asian financial crisis gives a negative permanent impact after seven month delay. The first and second Bali bombings also yield negative impacts which were temporary effect after six and twelve months delay respectively.
